In 2021, 4,05,330 Permanent Residents Landed in Canada. Of these 32% Permanent Residents were from India followed by China at 8% and Pakistan at 2%.
In 2022 the plan is to make 4,11,000 foreign nationals Permanent Residents.
There are different programs through which a foreign individual can become a Permanent Resident.
1. Economic Class
This had the highest number of candidates accepted as Permanent Residents in 2021. 62% totaling 252, 975 permanent residents
- Canada Experience Class accounted for 130,555 permanent residents
- Provincial Nominee Program accounted for 53960 landed immigrants
- Ontario had the largest share of landed immigrants – 49%
- British Columbia 17%
- Quebec 12%
- Alberta 10%
- All other provinces were from 0.5% and less
- Temporary Residents -23,885 candidates landed as Temporary Residents (Student Visa/Work Permit) and became Permanent Residents.
- Federal Skilled Worker Program accounted for 8,320 permanent residents In 2021
2. Family Class accounted for 80,900 permanent residents
- Spouses and Partners accounted for 64,120 permanent Residents.
