Eligibility Criteria
While specific requirements vary depending on the immigration pathway (Express Entry, Family Sponsorship, Work Permits, Study Permits, etc.), most Canadian immigration applications assess candidates on some combination of the following:
- Age – Many economic immigration programs favor applicants within a certain age range, though this varies by pathway.
- Language Proficiency – Test scores in English and/or French (such as IELTS or CELPIP) are often required.
- Education – Educational credentials, sometimes requiring an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) if obtained outside Canada.
- Work Experience – Relevant skilled work experience, either in Canada or abroad, depending on the program.
- Admissibility – Meeting Canada’s health, security, and criminal admissibility requirements.
- Financial Requirements – Proof of sufficient funds to support yourself (and family, if applicable) upon arrival, for certain programs.
- Program-Specific Requirements – Some pathways (family sponsorship, refusals/appeals, complex cases) have unique requirements beyond the general list above.
Every case is different, and eligibility should be assessed individually based on your specific circumstances and immigration goals.
