Protecting Your Money, Your Child's Future and Time
For most families, a Canadian education means years of savings and a decision that is hard to undo. The costs begin long before a study permit is approved: application fees, tuition deposits, money transfers, accommodation and travel.
An admission letter is not a visa. The college decides whether a student qualifies for the program. A separate immigration officer decides whether the student qualifies for a study permit, based on the study plan, proof of funds, past studies and work, and whether the student will leave Canada when studies end. A student can be admitted and still be refused.
That is why we ask families to answer a few questions before paying anything. Why this program, and why this institution? How does it connect to the student’s previous education? Can the family fund the full cost of study, not just the first year? Does the program qualify for the post-graduation work permit the student is counting on? What happens if the rules change, or if the plan does not work out?
Some of these questions have uncomfortable answers. Sometimes good advice is to choose a different program, wait a year, or study somewhere else. We would rather tell you that before you pay a deposit than after a refusal.
No one can promise a study permit. We don’t, and we would be cautious of anyone who does. What we can do is look at your facts, tell you plainly where the plan is strong and where it is weak, and prepare an application that is honest and consistent.
If you are weighing a Canadian education for your child, speak with us first.
