Visitor Visas
Immigration Laws Keep Changing. Your Visit Needs Precision.
Applying from abroad or already in Canada, we make sure your purpose, funds, and ties tell one consistent story.
A refusal, a short visa, or an expiring stay does not close the door. Most visitor visa problems come from a mismatch between documents and story, and that can be fixed. We identify the risk, strengthen the application, and anticipate challenges before they become costly setbacks.
What Defines A Visitor Visa
A visitor visa (Temporary Resident Visa, or TRV) lets you enter Canada for a temporary purpose: tourism, family visits, business meetings, or short non-credit activities. Travellers from visa-exempt countries need an eTA instead, under the same eligibility rules. Neither authorizes paid work or formal study.
- Visitor Record Extends Your Stay If You Are Already In Canada but does not allow you to re-enter if you leave.
- Parents & Grandparents of Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents may qualify for a Supervisa. It provides an option of longer stay with mandatory Medical Insurance.
- eTas may be needed where Visa is not required
- US Citizens do not need visitor visa or eTA
- Business Visitors need more documentation than regular visitor visas
Laws Keep Changing
What is Different Now?
Scrutiny is Higher Now
IRCC data reported to a parliamentary committee shows about 54% of visitor visa applications were approved in January and February 2026, and a 51% refusal rate for all of 2025.
Long Visas Are No Longer Automatic
The 10-year multiple-entry visa is no longer the default. Officers decide single or multiple entry, and the validity period, case by case.
Visas can be cancelled after issue.
Since January 31, 2025, officers have explicit authority to cancel visas and eTAs on defined grounds. Bill C-12, in force since March 26, 2026, adds powers to cancel, suspend, or change immigration documents.
Extensions Inside Canada are Harder
Reported approvals for visitor records fell to about 76%, from about 90% a year earlier.
Visitors Cannot Switch to Work Permit
Visitors cannot switch to a work permit from inside Canada. That option ended on August 28, 2024.
60 Second Self Check - Answer "yes" or "no"
Each "No" is A Risk That We Address Before Finalizing Your Application
- Can I show with documents, exactly why I am visiting and how long?
- Do my bank records fully explain where my money came from?
- Do my job, business, property, or family clearly can give reasons that I will return home?
- Is every answer on the form consistent with my passport, past visas, and my earlier refusal?
-
If I am already in Canada: is my status valid right now, and have I filed my extension before it expires.
- Not Sure? and if the Answer Is No to Any Of The Questions. Check our Eligibility Criteria
- Extending your stay: File a visitor record before your status expires. Do it early, because processing is slower and approvals are less certain than they were. Staying while a timely application is pending is generally permitted.
- Status already expired: There is a limited restoration window. Contact us immediately and do not travel or work in the meantime. See Loss of Status & Restoration → /loss-of-status
- Wanting to work or study: Visitors generally cannot apply for a work or study permit from inside Canada. Exceptions are narrow, and we screen for them before you take any step.
- Wanting to stay long-term: A visitor visa is not a long-term strategy. We map the real pathway (sponsorship, study, work, or humanitarian grounds) before your authorized stay runs out. See Pathway Planning → /pathway-planning
- Travelling out and back: A visitor record alone does not give you re-entry. We confirm you hold a valid TRV or eTA first.
.
- First application: A purpose-led submission: itinerary, host letter if relevant, proof of funds with source, and ties to home.
- After a refusal: We obtain and read the officer’s notes, identify the true reason, and reapply only when the concern has been addressed. Reapplying unchanged usually repeats the refusal. See Visa Refusals → /visa-refusals
- Request for longer validity: We present a case for multiple entry where the purpose supports it. The decision stays with the officer.
- Super Visa (parents and grandparents): We check the sponsor’s income, insurance, and invitation letter before filing.
- eTA or visa: We confirm which one applies to your passport and travel plan.
Documents answer the four questions. Your story has to make the answers believable. Officers judge the whole picture: how your trip fits your profile, your travel history, your finances, and any earlier refusal. A perfect checklist cannot fix a story that does not add up.
Where we make the difference
- We read your file the way an officer will and find the weakest of the four questions before you apply.
- We build one clear, consistent story across the form, the letter, and the documents.
- We advise whether to apply now, wait, or choose a different route.
- After a refusal, we read the officer’s notes and rebuild the application around the real reason.
- For eligibility check click here
- We tell you at the start whether the application is realistic and which risks we can and cannot fix.
- The decision, including entry type and validity, belongs to the officer. We make the strongest honest case.
- Federal Court matters, such as judicial review of a refusal, are referred to a lawyer in our network. We stay involved through the handoff, and court deadlines are short.
- We will never advise concealment or false documents.
- No one can guarantee a visa.
- Family and friends visiting Canada
- Parents and grandparents applying for a Super Visa
- Visitors refused once or more, including with prior refusals from other countries
- Visa cancelled, or entry questioned at the border
- Visitor record extensions and expiring stays
- Business visitors attending meetings, trade shows, and conferences
- Parents travelling to see a student
- Visitors who want to change course (study, work, or sponsorship)
A visitor visa is not decided by whether your paperwork is neat. The officer is seeking 4 facts about you:
| Card | The question | What the officer looks for |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Purpose | Is the reason for this trip genuine and temporary? | A clear, believable reason that fits your life, income, and timing. |
| 2. Return | Will you leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay? | Reasons to go home: work, business, family, property, studies. |
| 3. Funds | Can you pay for the trip without working in Canada? | Enough money, with a source the officer can understand. |
| 4.Admissibility | Is there any reason you cannot enter Canada? | Criminal, medical, or security concerns, or an earlier misrepresentation. |
